Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials state initial examinations indicate the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; officials are currently not informed of any harm in connection with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for information.
A senior political figure stated the incident left him without words and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on online, recalling the murder of nine people by a assailant aiming at people of immigrant origin in 2020.
